Maldives Welcomes New Wave of Resort Openings in 2025

April 2025 – Malé, Maldives – The Maldives’ hospitality sector is experiencing a significant expansion in 2025, with a series of high-profile resort openings and re-openings poised to elevate the country’s position as a global luxury destination.

A Strong Start to the Year

The year began with the official opening of JW Marriott Kaafu Atoll Island Resort in January 2025. Positioned within close proximity to Velana International Airport, the new resort adds another prestigious brand to the Maldives’ growing luxury portfolio.

In February, two more properties commenced operations:

  • Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives – A premium beachfront retreat located in North Malé Atoll, blending Thai-inspired hospitality with Maldivian design.

  • Ananea Madivaru Maldives – A stylish addition to North Ari Atoll offering an upscale, nature-focused experience.

These early 2025 launches signal strong investor confidence and rising demand for differentiated island offerings.

Major Openings Expected Later This Year

Several more resort debuts are anticipated throughout the year, further diversifying accommodation options across the archipelago:

  • Al Mahra Maldives (Laamu Atoll) – A high-end luxury property bringing Arabian elegance to the southern Maldives.

  • Corinthia Maldives – Expected to open in Q4, this resort promises European sophistication with Maldivian warmth.

  • Mandarin Oriental Bolidhuffaru Reef (South Malé Atoll) – Scheduled for a late 2025 opening, it marks the brand’s entry into the Maldives.

  • Nammos Maldives Nedafushi – Branded by the world-renowned beach lifestyle name, this project is underway with details pending.

  • HERE Maldives (Baa Atoll) – Positioned in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this upcoming resort will focus on contemporary luxury with ecological integration.

Additionally, W Maldives is preparing for a grand reopening later this year following an extensive renovation.

Impact on Tourism

These developments align with the government’s broader strategy to attract 2.3 million visitors in 2025. With enhanced international air connectivity and a greater variety of resort experiences—from ultra-luxury to lifestyle-branded retreats—the Maldives is well positioned to meet its tourism growth targets.

The ongoing investment in new resorts underscores the country’s commitment to innovation, guest diversity, and premium service delivery in one of the world’s most competitive hospitality markets.
